More than 60% of employers are not satisfied with the quality of graduates-TOI News 19-Jul-2010.
I was wondering whether this price of information in the National daily was really true. I did meet graduates with less employability skills during my entire recruiting process period for the Resume Services business that I run, but a staggering 60% and above really draws the attention to the loop holes in our education and training system.
According to experts, there are a minimum of 5 skills required by any individual to succeed in his professional career. Whether he is a fresh graduate or experienced person, manager or vice president, Chief Executive Officer or anybody - these 5 skills help him to climb up the ladder of professional success very easily and efficiently.
1. Academic skills - This is your academic qualification or expertise, your knowledge of domain area that will make you eligible to apply for a particular job.
2. Mathability skills - This is your basic science and mathematics skills which will enable you to understand a new job, reasoning etc.
3. Communication skills - This is your oral communication, language, reading, writing and listening skills.
4. Personality development skills - This is your ability to perceive and offer information, Out-of-the-box thinking ability, your confidence levels etc.
5. Presentation skills - This is your computer related documentation skills (word processing, spread sheets, Presentations etc), your mannerisms, your dressing style, your attitude etc.
So, having a good educational qualification with basic science and mathematics skills, being good at English, having superb confidence in yourself, and with computer skills there are a good number of people who do not make it to their dream job. They keep wondering about the status of their application send to a particular job posting.
