I Love My Job and You Can Love Yours Too

By : Lynn Banis

I love my job. How many people do you know who can say that? I hope you can. With what I know about job fit and the number of Americans who do not like their jobs I would not be surprised if most of you reading this article would say you are not in love with your job. Some of you like it ok but are not in love with it. You should be. Just think of the hours we spend at our jobs - more than at anything else we do! Our jobs should be fun, enriching, stretching and interesting not just a place to go to earn a paycheck.

How can you find a job that you love and how can you find that same kind of love in the job you have? There are a few basic things you need to look for to find the job you can love. First you need to know some things about yourself and how you go about doing what you do.

Write out ten situations in which you were doing something you loved and enjoyed doing it. These situations or achievements do not have to be at work. They can be from any aspect of your life but they should come from different times in your life. Spread them out over your lifetime. Write them in a way that focuses on what you actually did not what you or anyone else thought. Use as many verbs as you can.

When you are done go back over them and look for trends and themes. Look to see what specific skills and abilities you used. What were the circumstances in which you were successful? How did you relate to other people? How did you get involved in what you did? What subject matter were you working with? What was most satisfying about each achievement?

Now you have some very basic information about what you did and how you did it that can be compared to any job - the one you have or one you want to have. If you found that certain things were present in most of your achievements then look for those things in your job. If they are not there figure out how you can get them. They are the stuff of good job fit and good job fit leads to job satisfaction. If they are not there then maybe you are in the wrong position and need to seek something else out that will be a better fit for you.

If you need help seek out a coach who is trained in interpreting bio-data. They are hard to find but I would be glad to help you locate someone. Good luck - you deserve to love your job!
