In order to find a job in today's stressful economy, you need to find something unique about you, your training, and your work experience that will get you noticed. If you have a rare specialty that you think an employer needs, make sure you point it out.
One great piece of employment advice is to have an exceptional resume. Potential employers may see hundreds of resumes each week. Many human resources specialists don't even read entire resumes. They may only glance over yours for a few seconds. If they see nothing to attract their attention, it will likely end up in the wastebasket. If you want to stand out, your resume must be unique and memorable. One thing you should do is to personalize your resume as much as possible to the entity to which you will send it. List the company's name, the employment manager's name, and anything else you can to show that you researched a potential employer's business enterprise. It is tough for a one size fits all resume to stand out anywhere.
When deciding upon what to include in your resume, consider the business you will send it to. A laid back, casual document might do better at a business owned by young up and coming executives. An older, larger and more established business might require a more classical resume. In addition to the information you provide about yourself to show your individuality, you can also format your resume so that the design stands out. One man hired a professional resume writer to write the text for his resume, and he hired a professional graphic designer to create a uniquely designed document. He ended up paying $600 for the finished product, which by the way, ended up in comic book form. That sounds like a lot of money that you may not think you have, but this man ended up with an $80 thousand a year job to start. He more than made back his $600 investment with his first paycheck.
Of course, a blank resume won't do you much good. You need something to fill space. Experience, drive, determination, education and specialty training are all things you need to include.
Hopefully, this morsel of employment advice will do you some good. It isn't gospel by any means, but it may give you some ideas of your own to help you get started on the road to success, and a bright future.
