The Characteristics of Effective X-Ray Technicians - Confidence

By : Michael Morales

Confidence can only come from knowing your job well. An effective X-Ray technician has to know how to manipulate equipment to get an accurate x-ray reading. Without the appropriate knowledge and know how they put others in danger. There is no room for second-guessing in this position especially when a patient's diagnosis counts on the knowledge of the technician. A job well done means the patient can receive the best treatment available. Most doctors request the services of an x-ray technician when they suspect something major or life threatening so the job requires complete confidence in ones ability. Studying hard and staying current on the latest technology related to the X-ray field will build confidence and added assurance.

An x-ray technician's job requires an advanced knowledge of the human body and serious problems that may be detected using a special x-ray machine. Doctor's rely on the skill of the technician so they can perform their job well. Each medical professional has an ethical responsibility to the people they serve and should aim to do their very best. A technician needs to be confident in his ability and understanding when speaking with the different doctors who need them. A doctor will not take anyone seriously who cannot identify the major problems shown on an x-ray or who cannot operate the equipment effectively.

It takes lots of hard work and practice to build enough confidence to do the job effectively. Learning the machine inside and out including the different functions and capabilities it can perform will ease doubt. Questioning the things that they do not know is what makes an x-ray technician smarter in their field. Never settle for "good enough" knowledge if you want to succeed in this career. Technology is always evolving and changing, which requires a technician who will change with it. The more you know about the field the better you feel about doing your job and doing it well. Others will see how much effort is put into understanding the position and patient's and their families will appreciate what was done to give them an accurate diagnosis.
