Depending on your career aspirations and your interests, exactly which internship proves to be worthwhile may vary. But that doesn't mean we can't take a quick look at some engaging college internships for the summer of 2011. A lot of internships work in such a way that the experience can translate as beneficial in several fields. The following are five good internships worth looking into for next summer.
* College Works Painting: This internship gives college students the opportunity to learn real world leadership and business skills by managing the various independent branches across the country. Thousands of students have participated and about 12,000 homes are painted by students each year. Students quickly realize how important customer service and quality workmanship can be in establishing any business
* FBI Internship Program: Sounds exciting, right? You won't be in the field arresting bad guys or anything like that, but working with a federal organization such as this gives students an insight into how the FBI works. Duties vary depending on the internship you get, but many include analytical research, administrative duties and other opportunities to expose yourself to various career fields with the FBI.
* Newspaper internships: Call up your local newspaper or go online to see if they have an internship program. Many do and count on interns as valuable members of their team. You may not find yourself in the White House Briefing Room, but you'll get an unique look at one of the pillars upon which our country was founded: the press and the distribution of information throughout communities and across the nation.
* Your local hospital: This isn't the internship you do after completing medical school, but if you have aspirations to be a doctor, nurse or some other part of the medical field, getting an early look at life working at a hospital can be rewarding and informative. Administrative work, reception work and patient interaction are possible duties.
* Large corporations: Corporations often need as much help as they can get to lessen the load on their employees, allowing them to be more productive. This is where interns come in. Check with large corporations for internship programs, but don't be relegated to menial jobs that keep you away from the action.
